Character Gifts Reading Activity

Do your students ever feel like they really know a character after finishing a book? This fun Character Gifts Literature Activity lets students think about character traits in a different way. Students think of a gift they might give a book character and then provide reasons for the gift choice based on events in the story.
There are several ways to adapt the activity. Teachers can have a whole class think about one character from a book the group read or let students choose a character from a favorite book they read independently. The students draw a picture of the gift (or find a picture from a magazine or print from the Internet) and create a paragraph explaining the gift choice. For a twist, you can add a follow up activity where students write a thank you note for the gift from the point of view of the book character.

Happy Reading!
