A Nonfiction Reading Challenge

With Common Core insisting that we need to have an equal amount of nonfiction reading in our classroom, I needed to figure out just how to make this happen!  I needed to expose students to a variety of nonfiction genres and pique their interest in checking them out!  Hence, the Nonfiction Reading Challenge!

In this activity, students choose 10 different types of nonfiction text that they would like to read and try them out.

Students have to then read (and record on a reading log provided) what specific book they read.  Then they cut out that acorn and glue it to the squirrel.
If you are looking for a way to expose students to a variety of nonfiction genres and get them reading more, have them take the nonfiction reading challenge.  Click on the image below to download this engaging freebie!
