Consonant and Vowel Cards for Blending Boards

Our schools just switched over to using the DIBELS Next as our school wide screening assessment for reading.  When we looked at our data we realized we had many more at-risk first graders following the winter assessment than ever before.  Unlike the 6th Edition, the DIBELS Next counts whole words read on the Nonsense Word Fluency assessment.  We found that although our students were accurate with sound-symbol they weren't blending as automatically as they should be.  To help move our students along the continuum, I made these consonant, vowel, VC and CVC blending cards to be used with blending boards.  There are 3 levels for differentiation of the activity.

I also posted a video on the blog to demonstrate how to use the blending cards during small group instruction.
