Building Reading Fluency

One great summer activity that helps students maintain reading skills and provides an opportunity for students and parents to spend time together is to suggest weekly read aloud sessions during summer vacation.

I have a letter I send to parents to help students spend more time reading aloud during non-school hours. The letter gives tips for monitoring the oral reading to encourage better fluency. At my school, we require summer reading, and this letter makes a great companion to the summer reading choices.

Enjoy a good book this summer!
